Kelly! Owner & Felt Artist

About Kelly:
As a child, I watched my Mom as she spent hours in her sewing room turning nothing into something amazing. I've wanted to learn felting since my 20’s and as I approached my mid 40’s I wondered when I was going to finally get around to it. Once I touched my first bundle of roving, the magic started. Now the creativity is blossoming during these times of great change, leading to my use of natural & brilliant colors and flowing designs intended to uplift our spirits.

Felting allows me to transform wisps of fibers into pieces of art that can be worn to add decadence to one’s wardrobe or placed in the home to create warmth. I'm mostly self-taught, having studied extensively with European teachers and the International Feltmakers Association, of which I am a member. I tend to listen to the material, discovering what it wants to become while allowing my personal style to surface. My training as a massage therapist has been a wonderful asset as I have developed a deep sense of feeling and intuition in my hands.

My preferred method is wet felting with my favorite medium, Merino Wool, although I incorporate silk, bamboo, viscose, black German Angora rabbit, cashmere, mohair, linen, flax, hemp and mylar angelina. My designs include scarves that can double as decorative table runners for dining room or coffee tables, dressers or nightstands, as well as shawls, wraps and cloaks, jackets, skirts, dresses, hats, gloves, necklaces, garter belts, costumes, table runners, rugs, bowls, baskets, candleholders, pillows, wall hangings and sculptures. This versatile art form can always be on display as a centerpiece in your home. I work from my home studio, using natural soap and conscious, ethical, local materials as they are available, and I recycle/reuse as often as possible. The fibers I use do not hurt animals, with the exception of the silk I use which is made from processing silkworm cocoons. Vegan silk can be used as a substitution upon request and in commissioned projects.

I also enjoy creating art for commission. If you have specific ideas, we can work together to bring your vision to life.
